After a lengthy application process and a few days compulsively checking your emails, nothing beats the feeling of that interview request showing up in your inbox or coming through the phone. In fact, our research shows that getting to interview is candidate’s favourite part of the job search process.
Employers asked, estimated the business cost of making a wrong hire to be an average of £24,000 –just shy of the UK’s average annual salary (£27,600). Despite this, as many as 11% admitted they don’t offer prospective candidates any support in advance of an interview. This could explain why over half of candidates feel that employers do not do enough to help interview preparation.
The rise of new interview formats could also be responsible, with 46% of candidates believing that a less favoured format has even cost them a job. Whilst the majority of candidates feel confident with one to one interviews, respondents admitted to feeling least confident about formats which required increased interaction – such as group (19%) or panel (16%) interviews. Surprisingly, technology led styles also left candidates uneasy, with pre-recorded video cited as second least popular.
